What is in the apple and chestnut compote?

Apple purée at 79.5%, chestnut cream at 20% made of sugar, chestnuts at 38%, water and vanilla extract, plus concentrated lemon juice. Every ingredient comes from organic farming. Kazidomi has it made in France and sells it in a 700 g jar.

Does it contain added sugar?

Yes, unlike the compotes in the range that carry no added sugar: sugar is part of the chestnut cream, which makes up 20% of the recipe. Kazidomi lists it in the ingredients. The concentrated lemon juice is there to lift the taste and hold the colour.

Apple and chestnut or apple and apricot — which should I choose?

The chestnut gives a dense, creamy, mild compote, sweetened by the chestnut cream, in a 700 g jar. The apricot version from Kazidomi holds only two fruit purées, with no added sugar, and stays tarter and more fluid. One is a rich dessert, the other a light compote.

How is the chestnut version best served?

On its own by the spoonful, over pancakes, stirred into plain yoghurt or fromage blanc, or as a filling for a tart or a rolled sponge. The kazidomi.mompote also goes with a plant-based whipped cream or a rice pudding, chestnut sitting well with the vanilla already in the recipe.

Does the smaller jar keep differently?

Before opening, somewhere cool, dry and out of the light. After opening, in the fridge, to be eaten within five days. The 700 g Kazidomi jar is smaller than those of the plain fruit compotes: a rich texture like this one is served in more modest portions.
