Roasted Almond & Hazelnut Puree Organic

What is in this nut butter?

Two ingredients and nothing else: roasted almonds and roasted hazelnuts, 50/50, both from organic farming. No sugar, no added oil, no flavouring. Roasting the nuts before grinding is what gives this Kazidomi butter its brown colour and its pronounced toasted taste.

Almond and hazelnut or the three-nut butter?

This one sticks to a roasted pair, 50/50 almond and hazelnut, for a direct toasted-nut flavour, in a 500 g jar. The three-nut blend from Kazidomi brings in a third of cashew, which rounds the taste off, lightens the colour and makes the texture softer in the mouth.

Why does it harden when the weather is cold?

Because the fat in almonds and hazelnuts sets below a certain temperature. A Kazidomi jar kept in the fridge or in an unheated room turns compact and hard to scoop. Take it out an hour beforehand, or stand it in a bath of lukewarm water for a few minutes.

How is it used in cooking?

As a spread on bread or pancakes, but also in baking, in cookie dough, a dessert cream or an icing, and on the savoury side to bind a sauce or a dressing. This Kazidomi butter stands in for butter in many recipes, at the same weight or slightly less.

Where is it made and what is it packed in?

It is made in the Netherlands and packed in a 500 g glass jar, which Kazidomi asks you to recycle or reuse once empty. Glass keeps any taste from transferring and lets you see the oil separating at the top, which is normal for a butter made only from nuts.
