Chocolate Hazelnut Spread (18% protein) Organic

What is in this spread?

Cane sugar, sunflower oil, hazelnut paste at 20%, low-fat cocoa powder at 18%, pea protein at 12%, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, salt and bourbon vanilla extract. Pulse Protein works with organic ingredients throughout, and the 300 g jar reaches a protein content of 18%.

How do I use it?

On toast, in a porridge, in a bowl of plant-based fromage blanc or in a pancake batter. The Pulse Protein spread also works as a filling for home-made bars or cookies. It stays spreadable at room temperature; the fridge hardens it and makes it more brittle.

How does it differ from the Kazidomi Chokodomi?

Both put cocoa and hazelnut together, but the Pulse Protein recipe adds pea protein and a low-fat cocoa powder. Chokodomi sticks to hazelnut, cocoa, cocoa butter and sunflower oil. The Pulse Protein version melts a little less readily in the mouth as a result.

Does it contain gluten or lactose?

No ingredient on the list brings cereal or milk: cane sugar, sunflower oil, hazelnut paste, low-fat cocoa powder, pea protein, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, salt and bourbon vanilla. Pulse Protein does flag possible traces of other tree nuts on the label of the jar.

How do I store it?

Somewhere cool and dry, out of the light and away from heat sources, with the jar closed properly. A slight separation of the sunflower oil can show at the surface: one turn of a spoon brings the Pulse Protein paste back together before it goes on a slice of bread.
